These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of ShelfCheck, a product of SJC Distributions Ltd ("ShelfCheck", "we", "us"). By signing up or using ShelfCheck, you agree to these Terms.
ShelfCheck is a cloud-based expiry date management tool designed for food retail businesses including petrol forecourts, convenience stores, symbol group retailers, care homes, pharmacies, and similar premises. It enables staff to scan and log product expiry dates, generates compliance reports, and provides management dashboards and audit trails.
You must be at least 18 years old and authorised to enter contracts on behalf of your business to use ShelfCheck. By signing up, you confirm you are acting on behalf of a legitimate business.
New accounts receive a 30-day free trial with full access to all features. No credit card is required to start. At the end of the trial, access is suspended until a subscription is activated. Trial data is retained for 30 days after trial expiry, after which it may be deleted.
You agree not to:
You retain ownership of all data you input into ShelfCheck (scan records, product names, staff details). You grant us a licence to process this data solely to provide the service. See our Privacy Policy for full details on data handling.
ShelfCheck is a tool to support your compliance processes. It does not guarantee compliance with any specific regulation including the Food Safety Act 1990, Food Information Regulations 2014, or any sector-specific requirements (EHO, CQC, GPhC, etc.). You remain solely responsible for ensuring your business meets all applicable legal and regulatory requirements. ShelfCheck audit trails may support your compliance evidence but do not constitute legal advice.
ShelfCheck uses AI (Claude by Anthropic) for optional product identification from photos. AI suggestions are provided as an aid only — all product entries must be verified and approved by your staff. We are not liable for incorrect AI identifications.
We aim to provide a reliable service but do not guarantee 100% uptime. We may carry out maintenance that temporarily affects availability. We will endeavour to notify customers of planned downtime in advance. We are not liable for losses arising from service unavailability.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SJC Distributions Ltd's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of ShelfCheck shall not exceed the total subscription fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental losses including lost profits, data loss, or regulatory fines.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SJC Distributions Ltd from any claims, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or misuse of the service.
ShelfCheck, its software, branding, and content are the intellectual property of SJC Distributions Ltd. Nothing in these Terms grants you any rights to our IP except the limited licence to use the service as described.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify account holders by email of material changes with at least 14 days' notice. Continued use after the notice period constitutes acceptance.
Either party may terminate at any time. You may cancel via email. We may terminate your account immediately for serious breach of these Terms. On termination, your data will be retained for 12 months and then deleted, as per our Privacy Policy.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
